November 2015 - Charity Single & Video - He Ain't Heavy ( He's My Brother )

Very proud to have contributed to a third charity single with our areas amazing musicians and singing talent. The first single in January 2014 was for the Phillipines Typhoon appeal with our version of the Peter Gabriel song 'Don't Give Up'.  We followed that up later in the same year with a Christmas version of the bandaid classic Feed The World with Stuart Michaels for Unique Kidz . Then again this year the same people and more joined us for what I think was our best effort yet with a rendition of He Ain't Heavy ( He's My Brother ). I recorded the backing track this year with a full band in addition to the many talented singers all of whom are credited on the videos. I think a special mention is in order for Mick Kirk and his team from eyeandeye productions for the video, they were so professional and went the extra mile to lift us up a level.  You can watch the videos by following the links below and if you enjoy them please leave us a nice comment.

Born From The Storm - Don't Give Up January 2014

Stuart Michaels - Feed The World December 2014

He Aint Heavy  ( He's My Brother ) December 2015

February 2015 - Thrashing Crew - Annihilated - Jason Mcloughlin vocal.

Jason Mcloughlin asked me to track his vocal for a collaboration with Thrashing Crew who were recording their "anti social engineering" album in Suffolk. I had worked on a few tracks with Jason before but nothing as heavy as this, I sort of like it in a guilty pleasure kinda way, take a look at the video on Youtube and decide for yourself. www.youtube.com/watch

July  2014 - St James School Choirs - Millom

Delighted to have been asked back to St James School Millom to record a collection of songs for their second cd. The standard of singing was brilliant on the first recording and this time it was equally as good, well done to Nerissa and her team for keeping everyone focused and disciplined throughout the recording sessions, you all deserve a medal :)

June 2014 - Hullabaloo

Just finished recording a session with Hullaballo who are an excellent new soul and funk covers band. You can find the tracks over at their website here along with all their gig and booking details.

May 2013 - David Jennings - music for piano

In July 2012 I had the pleasure of recording original piano works by local composer David Jennings played by James Wilshire. The CD has been very well received and getting some really good reviews, you can hear Sonatina No3 from the CD to the left of this page. The cd is for sale here

This is a beautifully produced CD in every manner. The sound quality is outstanding, with each nuance of the music being clear

Sound quality, presentation and notes are all to be commended, resulting in a very good disc of enjoyable music and sound interpretation."

April 2013 - Original Recording of "Impressions"

My love of dutch band Focus is well documented and recently I had the absolute pleasure of working with fellow focus fan Steffen Staugaard from Denmark. Steffen is a fabulous keyboard player, drummer, bassist, composer and all round great guy to work with. I contacted him following a shared email from a mutual friend discussing the recording of some original music in the style of Focus. I offered my services as guitar player and producer for the recording of his composition "impressions"  long story short we exchanged audio files and a couple of weeks later decided on our final mix .

January 2016 Update - Steffen and myself have been working on new material for an album which we intend to release on itunes in the spring of 2016.

February 2013 - Live Recordings - Free Parking - Bluejuice - PNUK

December 2012 - Jason Mcloughlin - Kenny Vickers

Two more excellent singers from the bay area came into the studio just before Christmas... Jason Mcloughlin recorded three tracks for a solo project and Kenny Vickers recorded 12 tracks 'live' with his guitar. Both really great people to work with, I will post more details from these guys when I have them, both well worth checking out.

November 2012 - Mike Jackson - Sings The Greats

Mike is a fabulous singer who has been a professional entertainer for over 25 years. He first starting singing with rock bands in the 80s, touring Europe and making albums. I've known him for a long time now, he's a good friend and we always have a real laugh when we record together.

After working on the cabaret scene for a while now Mike has decided to revisit one of his first loves, singing from a repertoire of people like Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin and Matt Munroe. Mike specializes in weddings, parties & corporate functions. Visit his website here for more details of how to book him and to hear tracks from his album.

October 2012 - Mark McKenna - Big Mac and Swing CD

Mark McKenna is formerly the lead singer of successful Morecambe band The Ice Factory, he now works as a solo singer and DJ throughout the north west.. Marks repertoire includes Swing, Soul and Pop tunes, covering artistes such as Frank Sinatra, Take That, Elton John, Paul Weller, Robbie Williams, Will Young, The Killers, Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Snow Patrol, Oasis, Simply Red, Dean Martin, Lionel Ritchie and The Script to name but a few. Mark came in to my little studio to record an album of swing tunes and great fun it was too, you can buy his CD and find out more about Mark at www.markmckenna.co.uk

September 2012 - Monster Music - True Harmony Demo

Thrilled to have been working with my good friend Mike Croft of Monster Music once again, this time on a demo of his song "True Harmony" featuring the vocals of the fabulous Tommy Blaize.

Strictly Come Dancing singer Tommy has kept a surprisingly low public profile and that’s just the way he likes it. In almost four decades as a performer, he has risen to the top of his game and chalked up gigs with the kinds of artists most players can only dream of yet despite his achievements, which include major tours and session work with the likes of Tina Turner, Craig David, Take That and Portishead.

Fingers crossed for Mike, he deserves every success for the enthusiasm and hard work that he puts into his work.

August 2012 - David Jennings & James Willshire - music for piano

Having worked with David Jennings before I knew this would be an exciting project to be involved in. David started to compose music at the age of 12. He read Music at Durham University with the distinguished composer John Casken and went on to Manchester University to study composition at postgraduate level, again with John Casken. David is a very dedicated and meticulous man so I knew he would bring in someone very special to play on this recording of his piano works, that someone special being pianist James Willshire. James appears as concerto soloist, solo recitalist and chamber musician throughout the UK and abroad. He has performed a wide-ranging concerto repertoire with orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and The Ensemble of London, and collaborated with conductors Benjamin Zander and Michael Christie. He has given solo recitals at concert halls and festivals throughout the UK, Europe, Russia, Australia, South Africa, the US, and has toured India three times. It was a real pleasure to work with these very professional and hugely talented people. The CD will be released on the Divine Art label in the new year but before that will be available as a digital download towards the end of October 2012, I will post links once these become available.

Finally got to the North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam this year and while I was there took the opportunity to visit Delft where I met up with Bobby Jacobs and Menno Gootjes from Focus who were working in the studio on the new album, the compositions sound incredible and I have no doubt that Focus 10 will be another masterpiece.

I asked Bobby when the cd will be released "maybe in time for the UK tour"  Be sure to go and see them in October/ November 2011, every Focus concert is a unique experience, also we will be recording a couple of the shows so come and say hello  www.focustheband.com/

Redding, Coghlan & Bell Album almost done !

I'm in the final stages of mixing the Noel Redding, Eric Bell and John Coghlan live album recorded in 1999. I was asked to record the concert by the tour manager who shall we say forgot to reimburse me for my time and energy so I contacted Eric Bell and John Coghlan and asked their permission to go ahead with the release as a tribute to Noel who died in 2003. The plan is to release as a download only album initially in late October early November 2010. Will keep you all posted.

June 2010 - The Convulsions - Live Recording and Studio Single

The Convulsions are a Mod Punk Boogaloo band originally based in Chicago. Ben Ruth, band founder member had taken with him from England the old concept of British Rhythm and Blues with roots in bands such as the Yardbirds, Pretty Things, Animals and Big Three. Now back in the UK Ben has assembled a band which has developed a repertoire comprising of that same 1960’s British RnB vibe with funk and 1990’s punk rock energy and incendiary inventiveness.

March 2010 - Monster Music - ELC Nursery Rhymes Project

Been working pretty hard on a nursery rhymes project this month with Mike Croft of Monster Music for the Early Learning Centre, it's the first time I've written or arranged any childrens music and it really is an entirely different discipline and I was well outside of my comfort zone for the first couple of weeks.  I was really suprised at the amount of hard work and dedication that goes into to producing educational music to the high standard that Mike has done for years, he's a nice guy and we quickly formed a good working strategy and a solid friendship developed over the many sessions recording and mixing together. We'll be working together a lot in the future starting with a re-record of one of Mikes hit songs 'True Harmony' later in the year.

February 2010 - Live recording for bands in 2010

We can now record your gig/concert at your favourite venue straight from our front of house console and also capture the sound of your audience with ambience microphones.

January 2010 - Key Arts - Production Music

Working really hard on our production music library this year and on course in keeping with our new years resolution of tracks per month composed and recorded. We have another fine composer recruited to our team who is fantastic, we want to build our catalogue as quickly as possible this year so if you are reading this as a composer and you have your own production facilities and original music why not get in touch and let us hear your work.

December 2009 - Brass Band Concert - Keyarts.tv - Starpoint Radio

The run up to Christmas has been a busy time (long may it continue into 2010) there have been radio shows to record on location, original compositions to write for Key Arts and more and more solo singers have been recording tracks to give as Christmas gifts which has meant quite a few late nights and early mornings getting things recorded, mixed and mastered in time.

Following the success of the Morecambe Brass Band Easter concert release 'Live and Winning' I was asked to record their Christmas concert in late December.  As it takes around four to six weeks to design artwork, edit, licence and produce a release it was decided by the MBBA that the CD would be manufactured sometime early this year in plenty of time for next Christmas.

November 2009 - Paul Hayes - IVR - Starpoint Radio

It's been a busy month recording shows with Sean Oconnor and planning our 2010 schedule for Starpoint Radio which is a London based soul music station.  There has also been an unusual amount of audio editing to do for IVR (telephone systems) in addition to recording a few new solo singers one of which was BBC TV presenter, antiques expert and all round good egg Paul Hayes.

Paul was discovered by chance by the BBC1's Bargain Hunt programme, the producers were so impressed with him that he appeared as one of their regular experts. In January 2001 he was asked to appear as the antiques specialist on BBC1's popular daytime show Housecall, sharing his considerable knowledge about different categories of antiques and collectibles. He has been co-presenter of Cash in the Attic since Autumn 2002 and was the expert presenter on BBC1’s Star Sale in 2004 and has also been the expert contributor to Crimewatch UK.

Paul contacted me at the beginning of November, he is clearly very passionate about music and wanted to put some of his favourite songs to disc, we recorded three tracks at his home and he was so pleased with the results that he came to my project studio to record more tracks later in the month, he's a talented and likeable lad, we had a lot of laughs along the way and made some very good recordings too.

October 2009 - Focus DVD - Release

Following the recording we featured back in April at the Robin 2, Focus have now released their 'Live In England' dvd to coincide with the extensive ' Classic Legends Of Rock' tour of the UK on which they headline with Martin Turners Wishbone Ash and The Strawbs.

September 2009 - Keyarts - Dan In Gdansk - Soundtrack

Alone in the historic city of Gdansk once a place of great conflicts and struggles for the freedom of the human spirit, Dan is free to walk the streets and contemplate his own place in the Cosmos. As time seems to pass, he senses the distinction between himself and the rest of the material World starts to blur.

There’s only one conclusion he can make !

Produced and directed by John Pagan

Music composed and performed by Neil Gowland

August 12th -13th  2009 Phillip Fawcett. Pianist
One of the things I enjoy most about being a recording engineer is that you get to meet and work with some nice people, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Phillip before and have just spent the last couple of evenings with him recording material for his new Grieg CD featuring The Holberg Suite, Lyric Pieces Op.65 (including the great 'Wedding day at Troldhaugen'), the much-loved 'Notturno' and the charismatic 'March of the Trolls'.

We’ll be putting the CD together over the next week or so and it will be available to order sometime in September from Phillips website here

JUNE 13th 2009 Massed Choir Recording
I've been recording with my good friend David Wood for many years, he and I were asked back by the

K Shoes Male Voice Choir to record and produce their second cd of 2009, this time it was to be ‘Live’ and the main concert event of their 40th anniversary celebrations at the Leisure Centre in Kendal, Cumbria.

The concert was a huge success performed to an enthusiastic ‘sold out’ audience who enjoyed pieces by massed choirs and performances by guest choirs from Steeton, Chapel - en - le - Frith and Much Wenlock.

Joining the choirs on stage was Mezzo Soprano Wendy Sharrock.

The cd is on sale from the K Shoes MVC website

MAY 29th - 31st  2009 Starpoint Radio Show with Sean OConnor
I’ve been producing soul radio shows with Sean since his Solar days but this weekend was going to be very special as we were out and about to record interviews on location with some of the top soul dj’s from around the UK .

The Seaside Soul Club pulled out all the stops to promote the third annual event and Sean O'Connor's intimate knowledge of the soul radio scene got the message across the whole country.
Ian Dewhirst, a soul DJ based in London and who can command a four figure fee for a night's work, raved over the great setting for the weekend. "You walk down that promenade, take in the beautiful view across the bay to the lake district and you just couldn't wish for a better setting for sweet soul music," he enthused.

The two hour show eventually featured music and chat from the Morecambe weekend festival for a Starpoint radio special which attracted peak listening figures at the station so we're very pleased about that, well done Sean.

You can catch regular shows by Sean at www.starpointradio.com

APRIL 28th 2009 FOCUS at The Robin 2 Wolverhampton
As a life long fan of this fantastic band I was delighted to be asked along to assist my very good friend and Focus engineer Geert Scheijgrond with the recording of the live sound for a brand new CD & DVD.

This was to be the bands first DVD shoot since the 2003 release of Focus Live in America.

With their unique classical, jazz and progressive rock style Focus manifested themselves at the start of the seventies as the most successful and the most appreciated of all the Dutch pop-rock exports.

The band had split in the late seventies but after an initial careful comeback which resulted in a well received album "Focus 8", the band are now back on the frontline with a fantastic line-up with founder member and musical genius Thijs van Leer still holding the fort and with Pierre van der Linden the drummer who is internationally renowned for his unique style and technical skill, together with Bobby Jacobs on bass who stems from a well acclaimed Dutch jazz family they are responsible for the rhythm section and that unmistakable Focus groove, the line up is completed by the sensational guitarist Niels van der Steenhoven.

APRIL 11th 2009 - MORECAMBE BRASS BAND - Live & Winning
The band performed their now traditional Easter Concert at the Platform, receiving glowing reports from the packed audience. The programme included a number of beautifully played solos - Share My Yoke (Paul Woodhead - Prinipal Cornet), Dmitri (Carol Blaylock - Flugel Horn), The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Jeff Cunningham - Solo Horn). Particularly moving for both band and audience alike was Pie Jesu, a duet showcasing the talents of both Carol Blaylock and Samantha Barbary (Soprano Cornet).

You can buy the cd from the MBBA website
